African folk song
Hi There,

It doesn't look as if this community is still active, but I'm searching for the answer to a quesiton, so thought I'd take a chance.

My choral group is currently singing a South African freedom song called Gabi Gabi. Unfortunately, our sheet music doesn't indicate which South African language the song is in. All it says is "AFrican", which we all know is not a language.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi. I'm working on a family tree of the Goss family. I know there are a lot of them. I can trace mine back to Michael Goss in the late 1700s. So if you're a Goss and in SA, we're probably related in some way.

If you are a Goss, or you know any, please contact me by commenting here. Thanks!

x-posted to as many SA communities as i could find... ;) Sorry if you got it a bunch of times...

About 20 years ago I listened to a record that my mother owned. It was tossed when she moved about 10 years ago and now I'm trying to find it again. The trouble is that I don't know who the artists were and all I can remember of their lyrics is something like "down in Africa" or "down in South Africa".

There were four or five guys in the group, where one of them was white.
There was a picture of all of them standing outside, with a mountain in the background.

I'm fairly sure that they were African and it was probably recorded in the mid-80's. It was a present from my aunt, who lived in South Africa at the time.

I know it's a longshot, but let me know if you have any theories. =)

GORDON'S SUITCASE

oi! All you people in Pretoria!

Yes you.

Catch Gordon's Suitcase this Sunday afternoon at Cool Runnings, Hatfield. Bands start at 2pm, and also includes Jan Blom & Fake Leather Blues Band.

About the Band:

"Gordon's Suitcase creates restless, ambient soundscapes. Using the familiar configuration of bass, drums and guitars to create their unique instrumental compositions. Unafraid to experiment, occasional guest artists are used to consolidate and deepen the music using diverse instruments such as didgeridoo and horn section. Gordon's Suitcase comprises of Rainier Prins and Illimar Neitz on guitar, Malcolm Ross on bass and Jako Loots on drums. "

If you want to experience something different, this is it.

SA people in the UK
One of the greatest bands to come out of South Africa is going to be playing in the UK in the next couple of weeks if you have not seen any ads.

Seether will be playing a couple shows, a couple are already sold out but I am sure that you can get to one that isnt!

OK, first post
Hi, this is the manager/founder of this community, just here to kick things off with the first post.

I hope that Ljers from all over who are familiar with (or are fans of) South African Music can come and join, post, comment, discuss, and do whatever here (as long as its relating to South African music, of course), so this community will remain unmoderated for the time being.

thanks!
